10 Habits of a Clean Home

I came across this on Pinterest (which I pinned) and thought I would share it on my blog. I'm always looking for ways to help keep my house clean or picked up. Some days/weeks I do really great, other days not so much. I think it all boils down to how much you have going on whether its running your kids or running in your mind...and of course, how you are feeling.  I think concepts work for different people. I've adapted a few of things that work for me but I'm going to try and incorporat more into my life.  We'll see what happens...

You can visit the website HERE, but I have listed the 10 Habits of a Clean Home below.  If anything, maybe one of these habits will work for you and get you started in the right direction...if you even need it.  Heck, y'all are probably the neatest people ever!

1. Shine Your Sink.

Several years ago I was on the flylady email list and the first thing I learned was to “shine your sink” every night. (Unfortunately, that’s as far as I got with the flylady. Maybe I should try again!) Anyway, the shine your sink concept is a great habit to begin! Every night take five minutes to clean your kitchen completely. Put dirty dishes in the dishwasher, clean off the counters, and scrub and dry your sink until it’s shiny.

2. Wash One Load of Laundry Daily.

Instead of waiting until the weekend to wash several loads of laundry, get in the habit of washing one load every day. As soon as you wake up, put a load of laundry in the washing machine. As soon as it’s finished (that’s the hard part for me!), transfer the load to the dryer. Hopefully it will be finished by the time you leave for the day! When you get home, fold and put away the clothes.

You may need to modify the routine if you’re worried about your clothes getting wrinkled or you have more or less than seven loads of laundry every week. Just make adjustments and find a way to make laundry part of your daily routine.

3. Process Mail Immediately.

Go through your mail daily. As you walk in the door, open all envelopes, throw away or shred junk mail, and put bills and other action items in your command center.

4. Create a Command Center.

A command center is an area in your home that can be used as a catch all for items that need to be processed (i.e. bills that need to be paid, cards to send out, etc.). It’s also a place that can house items that need to be picked up quickly as you walk out the door like keys, bags, and phones. Some also benefit for having a calendar in this area. Customize the command center to fit your family and life!

5. Throw Away Trash.

Throwing away your trash seems so simple right? But, how many times have you (or someone in your family) taken something out of a package and put the package on the counter beside you? Or, maybe you’ve taken tags off clothes and just placed them on the dresser instead of the trashcan? Instead of waiting until later, just take a few extra seconds and immediately throw away trash in the trashcan.

6. Straighten Up Every Night.

Waking up to a clean home can make the start of your day more pleasing and productive. Take a few minutes each night to pick up around the house. It doesn’t have to be spotless, but straightening up nightly helps to keep the mess from becoming overwhelming.

7. Create a Cleaning Schedule.

Depending on your personality, a cleaning schedule can be as detailed or scaled down as you want it. You may want to clean bathrooms on Monday, mop and vacuum floors on Tuesday, dust on Wednesday, cut the yard on Thursday, and something else on Friday. Or you may prefer to do everything on the weekend. In either situation, a plan will help you move through the list much more quickly. Just like other areas in life, a plan will encourage, motivate, and enable you to reach your goal for a clean home.

8. Become a Minimalist.

Reducing clutter reduces stress. You’ll have less to clean, less to pick up, and less to maintain. You may even be able to live in a smaller house! Or at least not feel like you have to move into a bigger one.

9. Do One Thing.

Sometimes the list of household projects can seem so overwhelming. If you have a list of 10 things that you need to replace, build, or update, just pick one thing to complete. Then do one thing that will move you closer to finishing that project. For example, if you need to organize your closet, start with your pants. Then move onto skirts the next day, and tops the following day. Break down a large project by just doing one thing. And if you need help picking the “one thing” you can get daily prompts at SpringCleaning365.com. The tagline is: one thing. each day. all year.

10. Have a Junk Drawer.

Yes, a junk drawer is a must for a clean home. In some cases, a cabinet or closet may be more reasonable! Having a place to store random items that don’t have a home can be so freeing. Plus, when you’re in a hurry, sometimes it’s just easier to dump everything into one place. Of course, the only downfall is that you must clean it out periodically!

Oven Woes

For those who haven't heard by now, I have been without an oven for about 2 1/2 weeks and let me tell you, it hasn't been fun...at all.  Let me just say, you never truly know how much you use something until you can't. I will spare you the details of why I'm still without but it boils down to my forgetfulness in the first week, the parts store not calling me back in the second week and more of my forgetfulness and me hem-hawing on what to do after that.

Buy a couple parts and hope the oven works vs. buy a beautiful new gas range

dilemma...my current gas range measures 36" instead of the normal 30" = more $$$.

I have decided to go with the new range and (sigh) the basic model as opposed to what I call the cadillac model.  Maybe someday when my dream house/barn is built, I'll get to put in a cadillac gas range.  Someday.  I'm still looking at the best deal but hopefully will make my decision this weekend and get the thing ordered and delivered real soon.

I hate not having an oven.  Its a pain. I'm already trying to cook more and this just isn't helping that goal.  And I've been wanting to bake!  I'm still not sure if its because I don't have an oven that I have these urges to bake or if I really do want to bake?  Ha! I'll let you figure that one out.

Y'all have a good one & happy Friday!!

Picture Party

Hey look, I can finally download pictures again!!  Woo Hoo!  So I've decided to have a picture party and share what I've been wanting to post...

First up...sweet pics of Miss Bella I wanted to post for her birthday :).  These were the pics on her birthday party invitation.

Happy Birthday Toot Marie!!

Saw this on Pinterest...so true!  However, I do need to add a tag under it that says..."or my brother!" because that is usually the case with me.  Couldn't make it without either of them helping me out.

Boo and her new house.  Her Aunt DiDi got her this for her birthday.  It finally came in and we got it put together in time to surprise her after she and Chris came home from their weekend with Jeff. She was so excited.  Can you tell?

My little Picasso...

Me and my niece Stephanie headed to Target to do a little retail therapy :)

Ah yes..Christopher and Jordan, my ninjas.  They were goofing around outside with Christopher's airsoft pellet guns, decided it would be a good idea to scare Jordan's mom when she came to get him.  Didn't work.  Momma was on Jana's side.  :)

Christopher's new boots...was a good purchase.  The boy hasn't gone a day without them on his feet.  He loves them.

Me and my sweet babies.  I love this picture because you can really see just how tall my handsome son is getting.  Makes momma proud.

30 Day Mom Challenge

My life long, childhood, forever friend Jana sent a link to this list the other day, 30 Day Mom Challenge:  Mom's Ultimate To-Do List.  I printed it and posted it at work and also put a copy in my life planner.  I started this challenge on Day 13 and I have to say that each day that I have read the challenge, I am reminded of it later in the evening, or rather, I remind myself of that day's challenge.  Its helps and is working for me...says the girl who is only 3 days into it. :)

Favorite Quotations

I'm always reading quotes, looking for inspiration.  Sometimes it just jumps up and bites me in the ass and generally, those are the ones that stick with me for a long time.  I've shared my favorites through the years but I wanted to share some of my cousin's favorite ones.  I was snooping/stalking browsing her FB page and stumbled upon these. I'm sure she won't mind me stealing borrrowing  them to share with you.  Have a great day!

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
Love the people who treat you right.
Forget about the ones who don't.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Nobody said life would be easy.
They just promised it would be worth it.

"We Don't Love The People We Love Because They are Perfect. We Love Them Because They Aren't."

"It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about."

Baked Cream Cheese Spaghetti Casserole

you.must.try.this.

This dish is so delicious and so very easy to throw together, and I haven't even thrown it together.  BUT, I have eaten this dish and I know two peeps who have thrown it together and they have both told me their kitchen smelled so delicious while it was baking and even went back for seconds when they are not seconds type people. SO, if you have understood all that rambling then you know you really should try this dish.  :)

I would show you a picture from Pinterest but I can't upload pictures at this point in time.

Baked Cream Cheese Spaghetti Casserole

12 oz spaghetti
1 (28 ounce) jars prepared spaghetti sauce
1 lb lean ground beef
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 clove garlic, minced
8 ounces cream cheese
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.

In a skillet, brown the ground beef until cooked through; drain fat and stir in spaghetti sauce. Set aside.

Cook spaghetti according to directions on packet. Drain and place cooked spaghetti in bowl. Add cream cheese, Italian Seasoning and minced garlic. Stir until cream cheese is melted and the spaghetti is thoroughly coated.

Lightly grease a 9x13" pan. Spread a small amount of meat sauce in the bottom of the dish. Put spaghetti on top of sauce and top with remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top.

Bake for 30 minutes, until bubbly.

Birthday Girl

Happy 4th Birthday to my sweetheart of a girl...Isabella Marie!

(INSERT SUPER CUTE PICS OF BELLA HERE)
I have been trying to upload pictures for 3 days now and its still not working...ticking me off quite honestly so this post will be pictureless.  (Big frown)

I still cannot believe this child is 4 years old. If you haven't figured it out already from my posts and pictures, this child is a total priss...but she will get down and dirty with the best of 'em, she'll just do it in a dress, tutu or skirt! lol

I've been telling her for months now that when she turns 4 I was going to stop carrying her, that she would have to go potty by herself and sleep in her own bed. She has been agreeing to everything...until last night. We were laying in bed and she says to me, "mommy I don't want to be four". I ask why and she says..."because I don't want to sleep in my bed". And let me tell you, it was in the most pitiful voice you have ever heard. Just call me sucker because I will probably end up letting little Toot Marie continue to sleep with me. I'm pitiful I know.

I never get tired of seeing my girl after I've been gone. She always, always squeals with excitement, runs straight to me and gives me the biggest hugs. Even though she is getting too big for me to carry or hold, I am going to miss seeing those little hands reach up for mommy to pick her up. I have the image forever etched in my head so I can remember it always. And I'm not gonna lie, I will pick her up from time to time...I can't resist.

Her favorites have stayed pretty consistent, the only thing she has really backed off of somewhat is the ranch dressing. She doesn't want it all the time, just when its served with a meal at a restaurant. I still must try and document the way she says things or what she calls certain things because I know when the day comes that she is able to pronounce everything correctly, I will be devastated the same way I was with Christopher.

phone - pone
play - pay
yogurt - bunnies
chocolate - new chocolate
marshmallows - smarshmallows
sparkles - smarkles
lip gloss - pink lips
gatorade - juice
dr pepper - dopper pepper
daycare - caycare
Wal-Mart, Kroger, Mall, anywhere - grocery store
uncle - unkie
braids - snakes

As always, I go to start my list and my mind goes blank.

This girl is full of sunshine every day and as I have said many times before, she made this momma's heart smile again. She is a miracle to me. I prayed for her for a long time and I am so grateful God (and momma) sent her to me.

Happy 4th Birthday my sweet girl. Mommy loves you so stinkin' much!!

Black-Eyed Peas and Cabbage

Did you have your share of BEPs and cabbage New Year's Day?  I did.  I always do.  But what I really want to know is how many years do you have to eat BEPs n cabbage before they actually work?  I mean I suppose the BEPs are working because my kids and I are healthy and we live a blessed life.  Sure we have struggles but heck, who doesn't?  And really, when you look at other folks situations, we are truly blessed indeed.  But the cabbage...the nasty smelling cabbage that will never, ever, ever, ever be cooked in my house...how much of this blasted stuff must I consume for the money to kick in?  Again, I guess it has because I have a job, I have a check coming in and I'm able to provide for myself and my children.  But seriously...I wouldn't mind a little more padding there.  Obviously, the cabbage Gods are getting my bank account confused with my ass and hips because the padding ain't in the right bank!  Am I the only one this confusion is happening to?

I was reading a post from fellow blogger Laura at Cowboy Boots and Baby Booties about her goals for 2013 and decided I liked her term better than resolutions as well, so I'm gonna steal borrow her terminology of goals for 2013 vs. resolutions.

Cookbook
Get my dadgum family cookbook going...see here for what I wrote last year.  That's basically it in a nutshell.

Internet
Of course, in order for me to actually be able to work on the cookbook,  I need internet because the program we talked about using is online.  Yeah, that would help, dontcha think?

Cooking
Get back in the kitchen more and continue to try new things, even if my son and daughter turn their noses up to new dishes (deep sigh).

Save More, Spend Less
Always, always, always!  And again, if the cabbage Gods would quit getting confused with my ass and hips, this would work out much better for me in the long run.  Just saying.

That's it.  I don't want to give myself too many hurdles to overcome.  I'm going to continue to improve on what I made progress on last year and keep moving forward, trying very hard not to look back.

And I STILL have no idea what my word is gonna be for 2013.  Nothing sounds good....ugh!
